The Hebrew Congregation of Woodmont was founded in 1926 by a dedicated group of Jewish vacationers who summered on the Milford shoreline.
The fledgling synagogue’s membership steadily grew, and a few decades later, another building was built to accommodate the overflow crowds. Over the following decades, the synagogue experienced periods of growth and challenge, weathered uncertainty, and ultimately endured.
Chabad of Milford was established in 2007 by Rabbi Schneur & Chanie Wilhelm, who partnered with the synagogue, expanding the existing summer operations into year-round services and programming.
In 2012, a devastating fire decimated the synagogue’s sanctuary, yet the congregation rebounded, vowing to rebuild.
Today, we are proud of the synagogue’s remarkable renaissance as it is once again a thriving center of Jewish life, serving the community both spiritually and physically. This gala pays tribute to a century of shaping Jewish life on the shore.
