Our Mission

Chabad of Milford-Hebrew Congregation of Woodmont is a community that welcomes people of diverse Jewish backgrounds and is dedicated to enhancing Jewish life by promoting Jewish pride, celebration, and education. Our dynamic and thriving center serves the community both spiritually and physically, providing opportunities for Jewish engagement through prayer services, educational classes, lifecycle events, social services, community outreach, and holiday celebrations. Chabad-HCW welcomes all Jews to experience their heritage in a non-judgmental, friendly atmosphere. Our guiding principles are “Torat Chayim" - Judaism is a fountain of eternal wisdom for meaningful living, and “Ahavat Yisrael” - unconditional love for our fellow, inspired by the teachings of the Rebbe.

Tending the Garden 

As fall starts to fade, there is a chill in the air. Do you feel that there is a chill toward the Jewish people? Do you feel that our people are under attack? Do you think that the antisemitic weeds are starting to sprout yet again? 

We, too, feel that way sometimes. While this is sad and unfortunate, let’s be very clear:

• We are concerned, but not afraid.
• We are sad, but not dejected. 
• We are vigilant, but not vengeful.
• We are hopeful and proud.

Judaic texts speak of the world as a potential garden—and the mission of each person is to transform it from its wild, jungle-like state into a garden that is pleasing and delightful. The weeds polluting the garden are there, and we need to work on getting rid of those weeds. But here's the thing: even if we get rid of every weed, that doesn't guarantee us a garden. If our aim is to have a beautiful garden, we need to spend time cultivating its growth. 

While some focus their Jewish identity on getting rid of those “weeds,” at Chabad of Milford-HCW, we are focused on planting, tending, and nurturing the Jewish garden by ensuring that every Jew is hopeful and proud. YOU can water these plants and trees and help them grow into a beautiful orchard of proud Jews, standing tall, giving off fruit of their own!

 
Barbara was 92 years old and felt that the end was near. She called Chabad-HCW to request a visit and to say some prayers. While visiting her and saying the Shema together, she shared what was on her mind as she reflected on her life… She spoke about her Judaism and her children. She regretted not having more Jewish experiences.
