As your son or daughter nears the age of Bar or Bat Mitzvah, preparations for the big day begin. Literally translated as “son or daughter of the commandment,” Bar/Bat mitzvah is the process of being recognized as an adult in the eyes of the Jewish community. At the age of thirteen for a boy and twelve for a girl, young people become responsible for the mitzvot.
We believe that the celebration should entail more than memorization or recital performance. We offer private tutoring to prepare your child for this special occasion. Bar/Bat mitzvah preparation focuses on synagogue skills, Jewish holidays, and what it means to be a proud Jew in todays society. These fundamentals are essential for a child to fully participate in adult Jewish life. Our lessons delve into the true meaning of this milestone in a young person's life. Your family will have the option of celebrating in the warm and traditional atmosphere of our synagogue or an outside location.
A Bar Mitzvah boy will typically receive an aliyah and learn the Torah blessings along with (desired amount of) paragraphs from the weekly Torah portion/Parsha to read during services.
A Bat Mitzvah girl will deliver a Dvar Torah during services and lead a Cup of Blessings ceremony.
Within certain parameters, we are happy to tailor the celebration of this occasion to your family's needs. Please contact us to discuss further!
