Chabad Hebrew School at Chabad of Milford–HCW is dedicated to fostering a lifelong, positive connection to Judaism. Our goal is to nurture both Jewish pride and knowledge in every student.
With a curriculum that engages both mind and heart, and an atmosphere that is warm, exciting, and welcoming, students develop a deep bond with their heritage and a genuine love for their Judaism.
Lessons come alive through art projects, songs, and games, making learning joyful and memorable. Every class is designed to be relevant, meaningful, and engaging. Our hands-on approach allows children not only to learn about Judaism but to experience it in a real and authentic way.
1. Hebrew Reading
Our Hebrew reading curriculum - Aleph Champ – is the latest educational breakthrough. It’s been proven to work in hundreds of Hebrew schools worldwide! Modeled after the karate/martial arts motivational philosophy of color-coded levels and testing, it provides excitement and inspiration, leading the student into a winning cycle of learning. Each child is encouraged at his/her level and will have time to practice on an individual basis. Ivrit (Hebrew language) vocabulary words will be introduced and reviewed as well.
2. Torah & Jewish History
Students will be introduced to the characters and stories of the Torah. An overview of Jewish history starting with Creation to the giving of the Torah to modern-day Israel will be taught through interactive stories and art projects. The students will gain an appreciation for our heritage and culture that has been preserved throughout the ages. They will learn the content of the Torah Portions of Bereishit (Genesis) and Sh’mot (Exodus), with an emphasis on practical lessons that can be applied to the modern day.
3. Jewish Values & Mitzvot
Students will learn that our religion is based on a G‑d-given set of values and morals. Explore themes such as honoring parents and elders, kindness, giving, honesty, speaking positively (lashon tov), and developing good character traits (middot tovot). In addition to the emphasis on values, students will learn about mitzvot that are practiced in everyday life—such as saying the Shema, making brachot (blessings), placing a mezuzah, kosher, and more.
4. Shabbat & Holidays
Hands-on lessons for each Jewish holiday will fill the calendar as we begin with learning about the High Holidays and continue throughout the entire school year. By the end of the year, students will gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of each Jewish holiday, along with its unique traditions and customs. Through hands-on experiences—such as crafting Menorahs, decorating Seder plates, making Graggers, baking Matzah, and more—our holidays are brought to life and enable the children to bring home a taste of Jewish life. The essence of Shabbat and its traditions will be covered as well.
5. Israel
Our students will develop a deep appreciation for the Land of Israel and the vital role it plays in Jewish history and identity. In an age of widespread misinformation and bias, they will gain a true understanding of Israel’s significance as the Jewish homeland for over 3,000 years.
